Onam

Onam is the official state festival of Kerala, celebrated in honor of the legendary King Mahabali, who is believed to visit his subjects during this time. The festival spans ten days, starting from Atham and culminating on Thiruvonam. People decorate their homes with Pookkalam (floral carpets), participate in boat races (Vallam Kali), and perform traditional dances like Pulikali (tiger dance) and Kaikottikali. The highlight is the Onasadya, a massive vegetarian feast served on banana leaves.
